I’m Robin Montgomery
D.Sc.O., DOMP (Diploma in Osteopathic Manual Practice), RMT, RYT500
My name is Robin Montgomery and I am an Osteopathic Manual Practitioner. I graduated from 5 years of study with a Diploma in the Science of Osteopathy (D.Sc.O.) from the Canadian College of Osteopathy in 2008. As part of the program, I successfully defended a qualitative research study on ‘Defining the Inner Physician, An Osteopathic Perspective’, in order to obtain the designation of DOMP (Diploma in Osteopathic Manual Practice).
Prior to establishing a career in Osteopathy, I worked in health care as a Registered Massage Therapist for 13+ years. My background, in this area, also included personal training, fitness instructing, and currently as a registered yoga instructor (RYT500). This knowledge has provided me with a very good understanding of body mechanics and postural alignment. I regularly utilize yogic philosophy and alignment principles in my osteopathic practice as home care for clients.
Intermixed with the health care work, my previous career focus was in Occupational Health and Safety with 12 years working in a manufacturing environment with close relationships in Human Resources and Operations. Previous work experiences included working in metal stamping and assembly, glass manufacturing, gravure printing, automotive, and the food and beverage industry. Corporate employers included Magna, Coca-Cola, Wrigley’s, Consumers Glass, PE&E/Quebecor, and General Motors.
Osteopathy is the light at the end of the tunnel that I have been building my experiences and education towards. It is very gratifying to help others on their healing journey. To keep myself current in the field, I am continuously taking courses in Osteopathy. I have had the greatest pleasure studying in France with late French Osteopath Bernard Darraillans, whose methods of treatment were very resonant to my own way of treating. Currently I am studying James Jealous Biodynamic Osteopathy. There are many Osteopaths with whom I intend to study with and learn from, so that I may continuously excel in this craft of Osteopathy, health, and healing. Osteopathy looks at the whole Being in treatment.
On a more personal note, having had a fusion in my lower back, I truly understand pain and dysfunction. I share this because I know how important it is to find someone in health care that is compassionate and understands what physical pain feels like and the importance of returning to optimal health.
